The Market - Silves - The Algarve - Portugal
Silves is a town in The Algarve Region of Portugal. These photographs were all taken in the local Market place. Those sardines have long since been gobbled up...

Aren't Portuguese sardines fantastic? Once you've been there and eaten them caught, landed and cooked the same day you'd never want to eat a sardine from anywhere else again.

Oh how I love Portugal. I holidayed there six times in the one year, as much as I love the food - it was the cup of Galou (coffee) that had me coming back for more

I love sardines especially when they're freshly caught. I remember when we to the beach and fishermen goes to shore with their cath...we race towards them and buy at least two kilos of the silvery fish.
Sardines ("Tamban"-in our local dialect) can be eaten raw like Japanish sashimi ("kinilaw"-in local dialect). Just add fine slices of ginger, onions, salt, seasoning, hot pepper, cube slices of green cucumber and vinegar...and the rest would be history hahaha.
They can be cooked deep-fried in oil or just put them over burning ember of charcoal...smells and tastes good!

Man, I would love to have access to food like that around here. That beats any Farmers Market Southern Ohio Has to offer!
