Bay Area Blogger [Friendly] of the Week #53

The Wonders of Wiki: Savory San Francisco

Thanks to Alaina of A Full Belly for alerting me to the arrival of a new, local, wiki-wielding restaurant profiling site called Savory San Francisco. I've been digging around in it a little - it has some great features and a clean, crisp, simple-to-navigate page setup. Savory San Francisco simply details the restaurants in a factual manner and then links to reviews from elsewhere (ie Citysearch, The Chronicle and SF Weekly) to supplement the information. At one point they even link to a review we wrote here at Becks & Posh. I hope they manage to increase the review links to include more independent bloggers and other interesting resources, like Yelp, in the future. Remember Sucking Fish? They were trying to pull together a compendium of bloggers restaurant reviews but unfortunately it never seemed to catch on. Oh well.

The thing I like most about this new site are the videos. These are little one and a half minute films highlighting many of the most popular sites around town. They are great! I have been enjoying seeing inside restaurants I have never visited as well as hearing the voices and seeing the faces of the people whose restaurants I already enjoy.

They are blog friendly indeed - Savoury San Francisco even invites you to embed these video on your own web site or blog. Cool stuff.

PS - My weekend ended up being much busier than I imagined and the WBW round up is taking longer than I anticipated so I hope to publish it sometime tomorrow, now. Thanks for your patience.

Hi Sam I agree the litle videos are great. It was interesting to look at WD50.

  2. What a great resource! Thanks so much for bringing it to our attention. I love the videos. Hopefully wiki trolls won't ruin it.

  3. Ohh! Nifty! Here is hoping that creepy wiki watchers don't destroy it, like they have so many other wikis.

  5. I know those folks who started the site, and they're great. Hopefully they'll get around to Paris, and ask for help eating at all those restaurants!
