A huge thank you goes out to the hosts, to everyone who bought wonderful food (including the things I didn't photograph). Thanks to my friends Tony and Michael for giving me a ride and especially to Tony who drove while the rest of us imbibed without worry. Apart from the fact poor Fred had to work and sadly couldn't make it, that was a very good day...

Gorgeous photos, and it was a fun day.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like fun - I'll have to have my own retro party just to give those Scotch Eggs a try.
ReplyDeleteNo pimento-stuffed olives wrapped in cheddar cheese pastry? I don't think my mother-in-law ever had a cocktail party without them.
ReplyDeleteThe mystery hors d'oeuvre is bologna layered with cream cheese. I know, eeek, but we actually used to make and serve that at parties back in the '60s! My Beloved and I brought that to the party, along with the Lancers and the Mateus, which were the height of sophistication back then! Loved your photos - they make _anything_ look elegant, even bologna and cream cheese!
ReplyDeleteOh, those scotch eggs were dangerously delish. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very fun party, with good food and a great bunch of people.
ReplyDeletePer usual, lovely photos. And it was a pleasure meeting you and so many of the other people I have idolized as well.
ReplyDeleteSam all the food looks good. I'm glad you remembered to take a picture of Bean Sprout who is cute as always.
ReplyDeleteDid you wear retro as well?
ReplyDeleteYa know, funny thing was, I wasn't sore the next day from kneeling for 4 hours. What a great gathering of humans.

What a cute idea! Such tasty photographs too - what can I say? I can never get enough when it comes to food pictures.
ReplyDeleteyum, sam. what excellent photos, too.
ReplyDeleteSniff, sniff.
ReplyDeleteI swear I'm coming back soon.
Your humble hostess says thanks for the kudos!! I told Cranky all we did was open the door, and a party came in. Bravo, all of you.
ReplyDeleteThe pix are stunning.
(Your Scotch Eggs were a hit.)
Everything looks stunning: any chance of persuading everyone to write down the recipes? Any chance of persuading you to write up the recipe (or give a pointer to where you found it/adapted it from) for the scotch eggs? It's been many years since I had a decent scotch egg, and those look fantastic.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks,
N.
Sounds like fun - and your Scotch eggs look stupendous!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a REAL rough weekend!! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat was the first scotch egg I'd ever eaten. I loved it. Someone told me, "they usually taste much worse than this." :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment! I am a big fan of your photos...and the scotch eggs look fantastic. I will have to hunt some out in Hong Kong!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone - thanks for your comments - I am planning a post about Scotch eggs soon
ReplyDeleteZoomie - how did I miss YOU?
ReplyDeleteMateus was the height of sophistication still in the 80s for me when we ordered it in the first restaurant I went to when we were students
Look like a lot of fun. I do love a good scotch egg with some pear brandy.
ReplyDeletethere is nothing wrong with the tried and true -I love the look of the seven layer dip!
ReplyDeleteI would have brought curried pigs in a blanket or something.

Just so you're aware, you ARE making the rest of us non-attendees jealous. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll be watching for the scotch egg recipe too...
At a garage sale two years ago I caught my mother trying to sell this late 60s cookbook. turns out it was the first cookbook she got after she was married. the writing in it is hysterical, lots of focus on how getting the roast and the rolls done at the same time is the height of womanhood, but I have wanted to do a retro dinner party out of that book since I got it. thanks for the nudge in the right direction!
ReplyDeleteAb Fab! =)
ReplyDeleteThe food looks spectacular.
